The crew rushed over to the area and found the dog paddling in the water and moved their boat to intercept the canine. The dog appeared to ignore the crew as they tried to coax it onto their vessel. Eventually, they managed to get close enough to the dog and pulled to safety.
“How are you doing, buddy?” one of the men asked the dog after it was on the boat. “You’re the best person I’ve ever rescued.”
Officials did not say how the dog ended up in the water. The Coast Guard shared photos and a video of the rescue on Facebook.
“Thanks to the crew’s expertise in intercepting non-compliant vessels (NCV) and recovering a person in the water (PIW), our ‘star’ of the night was safely recovered and returned to her owner,” the Coast Guard said in the Facebook post.
