Former Police Dog Rescued From A Kill Shelter When An Illness Made Her Unable To Perform Her Job

An absolutely beautiful German Shepherd named Queenie, who once served her country as a K9 dog, was surrendered to be euthanized when she developed degenerative myelopathy, a disabling disease that prevented her from doing her job. Luckily Brooke Allewelt, a very kindhearted person, stepped in to rescue Queenie and give her the love and care she needs for the rest of her life. According to Allewelt, Queenie is a really sweet, loving dog who is happy in her new home, but as Queenie’s condition worsens, she needs additional care and a wheelchair. Allewelt is raising funds through YouCaring in order to address Queenie’s needs.

I Rescued Queenie hours before being euthanized. However it was not an easy process. With help from other dog lovers Queenie was freed from death row and brought to her foster mom’s house where she will await our arrival. Queenie was recently diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy which destroys the dogs central nervous system leaving them unable to walk. She also has a rare skin condition that requires expensive medication. This is the reason she was surrendered to the kill shelter. She served this country as a police K9 and deserves to live out her golden years happy. Queenie is still healthy but has a wobble to her. I am planning on giving her the best Golden years and keep this old lady active and healthy.

Queenie is finally in our arms! Our AH-MAZING foster Lina kept her safe and sound until we arrived. As soon as we saw Queenie she stood up and walked over to us, Lina hadn't even noticed us yet! She knew we were there to take her home and smother her with lots of love, warm kisses and alot of snuggles. She has so much life still in her! The shelter would have taken that away from her. Meeting her makes me that more angry and that more sad that we couldn't save anymore. Something has to change. These dogs deserve to live and flourish while they're awaiting there forever homes. Queenie was save, but there are countless other who need our help. Keep fighting for these beautiful souls lives. All they ever want to do is bring happiness to their humans. Dogs are truly a man and women's best friend! Thank you everyone for believing in her and sharing her story, without you we wouldn't have been where we are today. You're all our family and we love you to the moon and back. Keep fighting, we will too! ♥️🐕🐾☮️ #rescue #killsheltersurvivor #killshelterrescue #survivor #shepherdsofinstagram #germanshepherd #germanshepherdrescue @rescuealove @rescue_them_all @rescue.them.all @rescuepetsofinstagram

Walking into the sunset with a new family and anticipating a new, happy life. 😊 . . . Anyone who would have any advice please do so! Queenie is having a hard time holding her blatter and doesn't know where to poop/pee. I think she was so used to just sitting in her cell and spoiling herself. She has taken her habits to our place and it looks like we can't take her out. We live in an apt and it tough for her to get past the steps. (Don't worry, we are moving in a month to a home with two acres and a pool/fenced in yard) She cries everytime we try to. Is there anything anyone would suggest? Maybe a diaper, puppy pads, something else?!?!? The thing is she doesn't know where to poop and of course I can't discipline this girl, she is so fragile, her soul and body. Any advice is welcomed advice! Thank you so much to the strong following Queenie has gained! You are all family! 😚😍 . . . . #DM #degenerativemyelopathy #advice #dogadvice #germanshepherdrescue #germanshepherd #rescuedog #killshelterrescue #killsheltersurvivor #olddogadvice #rescue #adoptdontshop #walkingintosunset #travel #explore #dogstagram
